H2Verde Project, accelerating marine energies through green offshore hydrogen generation.

PLOCAN’s mission is to support and accelerate the development of marine energies by offering a unique infrastructure, which allows the validation of these technologies on a real-life marine environment. PLOCAN’s offshore platform offers scientific and technical services of unique and singular value, it is an energetic hub which smartly collects and manages the energy produced by the prototypes deployed in PLOCAN’s test site.
The H2Verde Project is funded by the Complementary Plan of R&D in Renewable Energy and Hydrogen, which is part of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan. Its aim is to execute strategic actions based on hydrogen in order to transform the current energetic paradigm and to minimize greenhouse gas emissions.
PLOCAN’s offshore platform will include a green hydrogen power plant so as to facilitate the integration of prototypes in its self-supply grid and, therefore, to cover its own demand. This way, the H2Verde Project will achieve the decarbonization of PLOCAN’s offshore platform, minimizing its dependence on fossil fuels. Thus, PLOCAN’s offshore platform will work as a self-sufficient and isolated system. It will be an energetic island, acting as a scale model of island systems.
The green hydrogen power plant will use the energy produced by the deployed prototypes to generate green hydrogen through a PEM electrolyzer. It will be stored until it is needed to cover the platform’s electrical demand, by being applied to a hydrogen fuel cell. Thus, the H2Verde project will also demonstrate the capacity of generating green hydrogen in offshore emplacements and its integration in isolated systems.
