The market has underestimated the capex and complexity of green hydrogen / PtX (power-to-X) production, and overestimated offtakers’ willingness-to-pay. This has driven the continued lack of generalizable, “truly commercial” PtX project financings. This session will present lessons learned by Green Giraffe Advisory in helping projects build viable, bankable projects that close this gap. Successful projects need a highly disciplined approach before entering Pre-FEED (front-end engineering design), with conservative accounting of expected costs, and of offtakers’ limits. They must prepare to address contracting complexity, combining top-tier EPC (engineering, procurement, and construction) contractor coverage with the “multi-contracting” approaches pioneered in offshore wind.
