Beijing will be gaining hydrogen-powered buses
It has been announced by China Yuchai International Limited, that fifty hydrogen-powered buses will be brought into circulation within China, specifically Beijing. This is an excellent development for the country and these buses will be using Yucha Xingshunda fuel cells for power.
Yuchai Xingshunda is a 65% owned joint venture which was created in 2022 with Beijing Xing Shun Ba Bus. The company’s main operating subsidiary is Guanxi Yuchai Machinery Company and the business was designed for the development, as well as the manufacturing and the sale of fuel cell power train systems.
The 12m buses that will be operating around Beijing, will be powered by 30 units of 82kW and 20 125kW fuel cell systems. These systems will be able to generate energy efficiencies that are greater than 43% and 45%, respectively. Both of these systems will also be capable of operating for more than 15,000 hours.
One of the biggest reasons around why China is opting to create these hydrogen-powered buses, is because it will help the country to meet its ‘double carbon’ goal. An added benefit, is that these systems comply with the national technical guidance requirements around hydrogen power and these kind of systems ensure that all the components are sourced domestically.
President of China Yuchai, Weng Ming Hoh, commented, “China’s hydrogen energy and fuel cell industry are poised to enter a period of accelerated growth. These 50 hydrogen buses commencing operation are the first product implementation of Yuchai Xingshunda’s core technologies in the marketplace.”
