DH2’s plan for a 35MW electrolysis plant in Spain has been approved
A new 35MW green hydrogen production plant will be developed in Spain, specifically Aragon, by DH2 Energy.
This project is called Hysencia and it recently became on the winners in the first European renewable hydrogen auctions, which was held in 2024. During this auction, 132 project were entered and the European Commission selected seven of them.
Once an Integrated Environmental Authorisation for the Hysencia plant has been obtained, DH2 will proceed to the construction phase of the project and this is predicted to start in early 2025. This project will aim to produce 1,700 tonnes of renewable hydrogen every year, with the intention of supporting the mobility and industrial sectors.
To make this possible, the project will involve a 35MW electrolysis and 49MWp solar photovoltaic plant. Altogether, the project will produce 99GWh of renewable electricity every year and this will go into powering the electrolyser. Furthermore, the project will also include a 10WM connection to the electricity grid.
Hysencia is in an ideal location for the supply of renewable hydrogen to the transport sector and this is due to how it is close to different land communication axes, e.g. the Huesca-Canfranc railway line.
DH2 Energy’s Renewable Hydrogen Projects Development Director for Spain, Raquel Fernández Corzo, commented, “Hysencia is one of the most advanced commercial-scale renewable hydrogen production plants in Spain. This project has a territorial vocation and will have a very positive impact in Aragon, during both the construction and operational phases for the generation of its green hydrogen as a clean energy vector.”
