Düsseldorf hydrogen refuelling station will use innovative and ‘unmatched’ compressor tech
A new and innovative compact compressor system will be incorporated into H2 Mobility’s Düsseldorf-Hoerwig hydrogen refuelling station. This decision has been made with the aim of making this site Europe’s ‘most powerful’.
Construction for turning this concept into reality began in March and so far the company now has plans to offer two tonnes of hydrogen on a daily basis.
H2 Mobility has stated that, ‘the new compressor, developed by Hoerbiger and Ariel, will boost dispensing capacity to over five tonnes per day.’
A huge advantage of the new expansion is that the HCP 500 compressor package is more compact and powerful, which means that it is capable of delivering a mass flow rate of more than 250kg every hour.
Once H2 Mobility has adopted the compressor package, it will combine the technology with modular dispensers and this will enable the system to provide hydrogen at 350-500 bar. One of the main reasons why H2 Mobility is making this adaption, is because the company is currently actively looking for a chance to expand and widen its offering for heavy-duty vehicles. At the moment the company has more than eighty stations in operation throughout Germany and Austria. Right now the thirty-three stations within its network offer 350 bar refuelling and the company hopes that this number will increase to 50 by the end of 2024. Along with this goal, H2 Mobility has signed a five-year offtake agreement with Lhyfe for 1,2000 tonnes of green hydrogen. This agreement has been created because at the moment, green hydrogen makes up a minimal percentage of the hydrogen that is dispensed from its stations. Therefore creating this agreement will help H2 Mobility to achieve its goal of providing entirely green hydrogen across the network in 2028.
H2 Mobility Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer (COO), Frank Fronzke, commented, “The performance of the Düsseldorf refuelling station on Höherweg is currently unmatched in Europe. It represents the new generation of H2 Mobility refuelling stations. In Düsseldorf, multiple 350 and 700 bar vehicle types will be able to refuel simultaneously and consecutively at the same location.”
