Farrall Group has agreed to trial HVS hydrogen-powered trucks in 2025

Farrall Group has agreed to trial HVS hydrogen-powered trucks in 2025

The Edwin C Farrall Transport (Farrall Group) has agreed to look into and experiment with opening its fleet up to include HVS’ heavy goods vehicles (HGVs).

This was arranged under a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) and it has been stated that the company will receive the hydrogen-powered HGVs in the second half of 2025, once they are ready to enter their trial period.

There are multiple benefits surrounding HVS’ powertrain solution, such as the company choosing to design it as a native fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV) and developing the excellent piece of equipment ‘from the ground up’. Designing the system in this way, means that the HGV will provide excellent efficiency and will also operate in a way that significantly reduces environmental impact.

Once the agreement has been completed and the project is underway, the next step will involve HVS sharing various information with the Chester, UK-based company. This information will include details such as vehicle data, total cost of ownership (TCO) modelling, route planning, infrastructure support and performance optimisation.

HVS’ Chief Commercial Officer (CCO), John McLeister, commented, “The technology needs no introduction, it’s been tested and proven in a number of applications.”

McLeister continued, “Our close cooperation with the hydrogen supply chain will ensure that our vehicles offer a highly competitive TCO by supporting with the most appropriate hydrogen infrastructure for the organisation, and providing a zero-emission FCEV that offers heavier payloads, longer range, and faster refuelling compared to battery electric alternatives.”

Managing Director at Farrall’s Group, Matthew Farrall, mentioned, “Our team is continually looking at ways to reduce and improve our environment emissions output. Our partnership with HVS allows us to explore the benefits of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles and helps us to deliver a greener running fleet to improve our impact on local communities.”
