Nuvera Fuel Cells creates first Hydrogen-Powered Mobile Generator
Nuvera Fuel Cells, LLC, is well-known as an established leader within the market for developing high-performance, zero-emission fuel cell products. Plus they are also known for being a manufacturer of heavy-duty, zero-emission engines for mobility and stationary applications. Recently this company has announced that they will be holding the first demonstration of its operational HydroCharge™ unit.
This unit is a hydrogen-powered AC Genset and DC fast charger for on-site power, along with EV charging and it was developed through a collaboration with Power Innovations International, a power management services provider. It has already been planned that this demonstration will take place at the City of Industry, California location of Papé Material Handling.
Nuvera is a subsidiary of Hyster-Yale Materials Handling, Inc. and Nuvera has teams that are based in the U.S., Europe and finally, Asia. The main purpose of this company is to supply clean, safe and efficient products to consumers. A huge part of this is that the products are specifically designed to meet rigorous needs of both commercial and industrial customers.
Hyster-Yale Materials Handling, Inc. is a company which engineers, designs, sells, manufactures and services a variety of lift trucks and aftermarket parts, which are marketed globally primarily under the Hyster® and Yale® brand names.
The new technology which will soon be demonstrated, the HydroCharge™ has been manufactured to be suitable for a variety of locations, including parking lots, warehouses, malls, construction zones, shipping ports, mining sites and finally, airports. On top of the technology’s primary operations, it also has the capability to address the need for backup power in places such as data centres, telecom facilities and finally, car rental centres. Whilst HydroCharge™ is able to support temporary power requirements for rental fleets, concerts, sports events, festivals, urban construction and even movie sets, another benefit is that it is perfect for consumer assets or long-term rentals. This means that the machine is able to provide an excellent alternative when grid availability is insufficient.
Since the prototype was unveiled, it has been subject to continuous validations testing at Nuvera’s factory. At the moment, the company is focused on the development of a fully commercial version.
Nuvera’s chief commercial officer, Kedar Murthy, commented, “Nuvera has created a zero-emission solution designed to meet the growing demand for clean, portable power suppliers. As grid limitations pose challenges to the clean energy transition and California Air Resources Board zero-emission generator mandates begin in 2028, the advantages of hydrogen fuel cell solutions are becoming increasingly clear. We look forward to demonstrating that our hydrogen-electric generator successfully matches the performance of internal combustion engine gensets and provides a transportable, off-grid power source with refuelling time comparable to diesel and gas-powered machines.”
