Ohmium agrees to provide a Dutch project with 5.4MW of electrolysers

A new agreement between Ohmium International and HYGRO will see the two companies putting proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolysers together with wind turbines. Ohmium will provide electrolysers, whilst HYGRO will provide the wind turbines and their combined goal will be to produce green hydrogen.

Ohmium has agreed to provide around 5.4MW of PEM electrolysers, whilst also suggesting that there will be potential for further expansion. Hygro’s turbines, which are located at the EWEF Wind Park in Wieringerwerf, the Netherlands, will provide power to the electrolysers, whilst also being directly connected to the electricity grid.

So far, the collaboration highlights that whilst working together, the companies will both reap the benefits of their combined skills, as the combined project will help them achieve their own goals. This can be seen in the way that the company’s PEM electrolysers and electrochemical solutions have been designed for industry and transportation applications, whereas on the other hand, Hygro is intending to develop a competitive integrated hydrogen production and distributions system. Hygro is planning to accomplish this plan through the use of its iBundle and pulsed power technologies. Therefore, this portrays how a joint project can benefit both companies.

The expectations for the next step include the plan for the pilot project to be launched in 2025 and both companies hope that this will lead to the production of green hydrogen, which can then be distributed to fuelling stations which are based throughout the region.

Ohmium CEO, Arne Ballantine, commented, “Ohmium shares HYGRO’s vision for an integrated green hydrogen supply chain to foster a sustainable and fossil free future. The HYGRO team is very focused on resolving key challenges with green hydrogen distribution, which will be very powerful for the Netherlands and the European Union.”

Hygro’s CEO, Hugo Groenemans, mentioned, “Ohmium’s PEM electrolysers and cutting-edge power electronics enable integration directly with HYGRO’s wind turbines for streamlines, efficient and affordable green hydrogen production.”
