Raven SR’s Spanish waste-to-hydrogen plant has received 1.4m euros grant for support from the government
The Spanish Government has awarded Raven SR, a company based in the US, with $1.5m. The purpose of this grant is to help the company build a waste-to-hydrogen facility within the country.
Previous to this, the project has received funding worth $1.8m from the European Commission and this has led to the 1,600-tonne-per-year plant being planned for Zaragoza in Spain’s Aragon region. This project will be used to serve the mobility offtakers.
It will be through the use of Raven’s non-combustion steam/carbon dioxide reforming technology, that the facility plans to process an estimated seventy-five tonnes of organic solid waste on a daily basis. The purpose of processing this, will be to produce clean hydrogen.
This influx of investment was kickstarted by venture capital Ascent Funds, who provided the project with a $15m investment. This large fund also involved participation from Chevron, ITOCHU and finally, Stellar J.
Raven established a Spanish subsidiary in 2022 and this was called Raven SR Iberia, which is based in Zaragoza. This was created in an effort to develop markets in the EU and UK.
The company has stated that, ‘the technology converts around 15% of its feedstock into solid bio-carbon rather than emitting CO2.’
Raven founder and CEO, Matt Murdock, commented that, ‘the grant “reinforces the attractiveness” of the company’s technology and it could play in the Spanish and European markets.’
