Dr. Martin Cames studied economics and political science at Free University Berlin, graduating in 1993 with a diploma in economics. In 2009, he completed his doctorate on the topic of emissions trading and innovation in the German electricity industry. From 2008 to 2022, he was co-head of the Energy & Climate Protection Division. He has coordinated several national and international research projects in the field of energy and climate change and has extensive experience in the design, implementation and evaluation of energy and climate policies. He has been involved in national and international climate policy for many years. Thematic areas of focus include market-based mechanisms, instruments to address greenhouse gas emissions from international aviation and maritime transport, negative emission technologies, and synthetic fuels.
